Pirate Bowling... It went well...

The one and possibly only event the Pirate club will accomplish this year has come and gone. This past saturday I grabbed the crew and set off to Pirate Bowling. A few misadventures led to the group only having 8 people. Doug was poor, Nerdlinger was running an event, Sarah took off to spend time with her sister for her birthday, and Shannon felt the need to burn herself with hot soup, forcing Dawn to take care of her.(She's fine - don't worry) Despite wishing I had a few more people, much fun was had by the random piratey fools bowling their hearts out.

As any good Captain does, I watched over my crew with the stern visage required to keep them in line as they bowled, attacked each other in celebration, and rocked out to pirate music. Oddly, some fellow people in the alley liked the music that we put on. I found this quite fulfilling...

My team, the Rabid Sea Dogs of the good Ship Funkytime, held our own against the other team, the Bilge Rats of the ship DawnHunter... Well, despite me... I came in dead last in at least one game... But I'm the CAPTAIN!!! So they forgave me... It's very hard to bowl in a long pirate coat I've learned...

The event was small, but much fun was had, and I proclaim it a success...
In concludinng thought, only one thing remains to be said...

"JAZZ HANDS!!!"

Laurier Day... With Pirates...

Ah Laurier Day, when all the wee little highschool urchins come through the university to see if it's where they want to go. Now my pirate club did not exist back when people were booking booths for this event, but my Exec and I decided this would not stop us. At 11:44 I woke up and realized the funny thing about alarm clocks is, they don't go off when you don't set them. Suffice to say, at 11:47 I was at the school in my pirate togs exhausted, but ready to provide pirate awareness.

We had 9 or so pirates dressed up and we refused to let "the man" keep us down. We took over some empty space, but were shooed away by some suit that told us the space was necessary for the NOTHING that was going on there before, and that in no uncertain terms we were unwelcome and uninvited. They made a big showing of telling us that all clubs were informed months ago and had opportunity to book booths. Now my club may not have existed, but from other clubs at the school who were not told, I know this to be a flat out lie. As they asked us to leave, Dan (the president of the Kult of Gaming, and a member of my exec) basically told them to shove it, and that he'd take down his booth so that I could stay. They tried to argue with us over that, but had no argument.

We were told off by them again later during a foam sword fight for "not portraying Laurier in the manner they wanted to express," or some crap like that. Heavens forbid that a highschool student think there is some wholesome fun that can be had at university. My gods - the Horror!!

Surprisingly, this was not the funniest part of my day. Not too long after being told we were negatively portraying the school, a reporter from the Kitchener Record approached my booth. I don't know why the heck he was at Laurier Day, but he basically told us that our club was the most/only interesting thing.

He proceeded to talk to us for about 15 minutes, asking who we were, what we did with the club, and why pirates. My response: "Pirates... Why Not?!"

The club that Laurier bureaucracy wanted kicked out was considered one of the most/only interesting things there. If we make it into the paper, that's cool. I'd love it...
Either way... That big "fuck you" to Laurier's Bureaucracy makes me smile...

Ah Sir Wilfrid Laurier Pirate Club...
I salute you...

Oh Snap!!!

I had been waiting so long, but actually had given up on this dream. I was actually sitting around bitching about how I guess it was time to just drop it, when Mossab the head of campus clubs came by and asked why I wasn't doing anything with my new club.

That's right... Apparently the Pirate Club was actually approved last week, but no one told me...

I need to get on some events... Oh my gods, I got no idea what to do...
Cripes!!
